the name behind the words

I was seven years old when I wrote my first poem.
I delighted in words whose sounds created a rhythm and made people laugh. I learned that not everyone would find the same humor in them, but I promised myself that as long as I didn't put down my pen and paper, I could consider myself a poet.

The day I became disillusioned with words - and consumed by the mechanics of daily life - I set aside my pen and paper and decided to write and create poetry in a different way.

I dreamed of saving the world. Today, I know I cannot save it exactly as I wished to when I was seven, but I can bring greater awareness to how we live, dress, shop, and express ourselves.

Today, I mend garments and fabrics marked by the wear and tear of life - pieces that still hold value for those who wear them.
Today, I rethink how I create and design, allowing each piece to adapt to needs, age gracefully, and - above all - find a second life when it is no longer loved.
Today, I let my poetry (poesia) be embroidered into every piece I create, like a painting on a canvas.
Today, I strive to reclaim and preserve the gestures I watched my mother and grandmother repeat so often when I was a child.

In the future, I hope to inspire and empower other women, men, and children to follow in these same footsteps.

My name is Melissa Rodrigues, and I am the face behind poesia.

our story begun with...

an analog childhood

The scraps Grandmother used for small mending jobs turned into miniature clothes - a living proof that I followed her every move.

And since Grandma never learned to read, she was gifted with a deeply imaginative, creative, and sharp mind, in which she stored every song, memory, and story she shared with us throughout the afternoons.

poesia took shape - before it was even recognized as such - within a poetic wooden chest celebrating life, one that today lives on amidst needles, fabrics, and threads.

how we work

In a perfect world, on a perfect day, this is how we work.

On a more challenging day, when hope seems lost, this is the world we work for.

handmade

Our pieces are unique and one-of-a-kind because they are carefully made by our own hands.

custom-made

Every body is unique.

Every home is a sacred temple.

That is why every piece we create is tailored to the measurements of the person who will inhabit it.

circular design

For us, a piece has an origin, a beginning, a life, a history, an end, and a fresh start. That is how we approach our design.

made-to-order

We only produce what our customers and friends want to keep in their closets and homes.
